Podium result for Nathan in 50 Lap Opener
Monday September 20, 2010

A promising start to the season for Nathan Macdonald saw him snare 3rd place in the Toowoomba Steering & Suspension 50 Lap event held at Charlton Raceway on Saturday night.  Macdonald had to fight his way to the front after qualifying from position ten on the grid for the 50 lap event.

Macdonald struggled in his heats to get some good drive in the wet track conditions, managing to obtain  two 5th's and a second in his heats.  The track had started to open up for the feature race which suited Nathan's setup in the car.

With the feature event underway, Macdonald had an early battle on for 8th place with Gavin Lorensen and Matt Swarbrooke until an incident up the front saw three cars put out of the race, Todd Doyle, Jason Boss and Brett Baxter.  The race resumed with Nathan now up to 4th place behind Swarbrooke, The battle intensified as Macdonald tried to find a way around an eventually doing so to move into 3rd.

With 15 laps to go Macdonald reeled in Chris Hayden vying for 2nd place, searching for a way around when Greg Worling wanted in on the action moving up the inside forcing Nathan to fight for his position.  The two drivers racing side by side with Nathan on the outside.  Macdonald was down but not out, losing his position to Worling.  Nathan pounced at the opportunity coming up to lapped cars, as he put the car up high and made the pass stick to move back into 3rd finishing right behind eventual winner Chris Jensen and South Australian Chris Hayden.  Greg Worling crossed in 4th, Brendan Kennedy 5th and Rodney Pammenter 6th.

Macdonald showed some good car speed in the final by setting the 2nd fastest lap time in the feature race and the night with a lap of 16.692 seconds.

The next race for Nathan and Shane will be back at Charlton Raceway on the 16th October.  Shane missed the first meeting of the season due to work commitments but will be making his return in October.
