Runner up for Nathan at Flood
Appeal meeting
Sunday
February 6, 2011
The
Inland Tsunami Flood Appeal meeting held last night at Charlton
Raceway (5th February) was well received, despite a late
afternoon shower which forced management to miss several events
as they desperately tried to get the track back to a raceable
condition.
With father Lindsay
strapping into the seat of Shane's car for the night, he was
made to start at the back of the grid in all his races as per
racing rules. The first heat saw Nathan start on the front
row, slipping into 2nd place as the race got underway. Steve
Downes led until he had a transmission failure which then saw
him making contact with the fence handing the lead and the win
to Nathan. Lindsay come through to finish in 7th place.
Heat 2 saw Nathan
start at the back of the grid along with Lindsay. Lindsay
making contact with Nathan several times throughout the race
letting him know he was there. Lindsay moved around Nathan
while he was trying to get passed another car, while Nathan
reciprocated the action by getting back ahead of his father.
Nathan finishing in 10th place and Lindsay 11th.
Nathan qualified out
of position 4 for the 15 lap final, while Lindsay was forced to
start at the rear. Local female driver Cathy Pammenter
showed up all the male drivers by putting her VS Commodore on
pole up against 23 other cars. Luke Hollyman was out of
position two with David Jacobi in three. Nathan was
sitting in 4th place trying to find a way around Cathy, only
when the pair came up on a lapped car that it worked in Nathan's
favour and he was able to move into 3rd. Luke Hollyman
soon pulled out leaving Nathan in 2nd, reeling in leader David
Jacobi as he approached lapped traffic. The final 3 laps
saw Nathan trying to get passed Lindsay to have a go at the
lead, but it was not to be, Jacobi taking the win from Nathan,
followed by Quinton Clarke, Dennis Bullpitt, Gavin Fletcher,
Cathy Pammenter and Rodney Pammenter.
In a few weeks time
Shane and Nathan Macdonald will be travelling to Alexandra
Speedway in Victoria for the Victorian Open on the 24th,25th and
26th February. This event is $5000 to win and both Shane
and Nathan will be looking to get their hands on the prize pool,
and very much looking forward to competing at a new track and up
against some strong competition from all over Australia.
