Gympie 30/30 Rained out
Monday May 30, 2011
Macdonald Racing
ventured up to Mothar Mountain on Saturday Night the 28th May,
that being Gympie Speedway. This time however only taking
one car, Nathan's VZ Commodore. This event being the T-Mac
Auto Spares 30/30. A race in which two drivers share one
car, competing in two qualifying heats each, determining the
starting positions for the final. One driver will complete
a 30 lap feature race, while a driver change happens after that
to complete the next 30 laps.
Unfortunately the
rain came just before the Modified Production Feature races.
But that never stopped Shane and Nathan having a good time
before hand.
Nathan took the
wheel in the first heat, starting from 4th position he assumed
3rd place as the green flag waved, chasing Shannon Blackburn and
Darren White. Blackburn made a mistake out of the hairpin
allowing Nathan to advance to 2nd, while a mechanical problem
for Darren White allowed Nathan into the lead and go onto win
the heat.
Shane strapped into
the #32 Toowoomba Steering & Suspension/Forbes Batteries
commodore next, starting from pole position. Shane got
away to a good start taking the lead, being chased by Gavin
Lorensen. Shane coming to grips with the car and track,
made a slight error out of the hairpin corner allowing Lorensen
into the lead. Shane greeted the checkers with a 2nd
placing.
Nathan jumped back
in for his last heat out of 6th position, but moved into 4th due
to a missing car. On the start Nathan made up tremendous
ground going around Darren Lyons at the top of the mountain and
into the lead only for the officials to call a restart.
Nathan once again went around the top of the mountain but had to
back out of it to avoid a collision, slipping into 3rd place.
Nathan went onto finish in 3rd behind Ty Jones and Glenn Pagel.
Shane's final heat
saw him start at the back of the pack, and moved his way forward
into 3rd place, but a great battle near the end with Matty
Pascoe saw Shane succumb to Pascoe and finish 4th by only a mere
.005 of a second.
After everyone's
effort, Shane & Nathan had qualified off the front row for the
feature out of position 2 out of 20 cars beside locals Glenn &
Mark Pagel. Unfortunately the rain won from here on in.
A disappointed team for not being able to see an end result for
being in a prime position.
The last race for
the season is at Blackwater on the 25th June for the CQ Title,
in which Shane finished 2nd last year driving Nathan's car.
Nathan will only be competing as Shane will be away.
