After
last weekends disastrous result, Nathan Macdonald returned
to Charlton Raceway to win his two heats and the feature
race. The first heat was a little wet and a few bumps were
starting to form already, the car didn't feel all that good
but we managed to get around Peter Campbell into 1st. After
a restart, the whole rear end of the car was moving around,
making the car even worse to drive! The pannard bar mount
for the diff had broken off, which would have been caused by
the crash we had at Lismore last weekend, seems it's still
haunting us!
Luckily our next race was towards the end of the night,
thanks to the generosity of Shane Langton, we were able to
load the car up and take it back to his place to weld the
broken mount back up. We made it back with plenty of time
before our next race.
For the second heat the track
was now getting very rough, even after they graded the
track. The car felt better but copped a pounding over the
rugged bumps. We started from pole position and led all the
way.
The track surface was no different for the final, we started
out of position two, taking the lead straight away. We
struggled to find a constant groove, as no matter where you
went the car would bounce over the large potholes. The car
still had good speed as we had over a full straight length
lead.
Next race we will be heading back to Mackay for the
Australian Outlaw Title. (hopefully it wont rain this
time!) The car is pretty well ready to go. It will be a
tough night with about 50 cars being nominated for the
annual event. The race format will be five 12 lap heats and
a 40 lap final, with each drivers worst heat being dropped.
Keep posted to see how we fare!
