Nathan
Macdonald scored another emphatic win at Lismore Speedway
Saturday night, to make it his first feature win at the
track.
Heat 1 was merely a one lane
track. Nathan started out of pole position with Peter
Rodgers on the outside. Nathan managed to jump straight to
the lead, hugging the pole line to get some good drive down
low. Macdonald opened up a good lead over Rodgers. After
coming upon lapped traffic, Nathan was still able to hold
onto his lead and take the heat win. Peter Rodgers come in
for 2nd and Travis Hollyman finished 3rd after starting from
rear of field.
Heat 2 was a reverse grid of the
first heat. With Nathan starting from the rear in this
heat, he knew he would have to do well to get a good
qualifying position. With a combined night of A Grade and
some Lismore sedans, there were about 13 cars in total for
the night. Nathan had moved past 2 or 3 cars, when there
was a bingle ahead up the front straight, Macdonald had no
where to go and ran into the back of another car. No damage
was sustained and Nathan could keep racing. It was a
complete restart. This time Macdonald advanced into 6th
place behind Shane Hollyman. Nathan found a line around the
outside of Hollyman into 5th, only to throw it away after
running wide up the front straight on the last lap, allowing
Hollyman back into 5th.
For the feature Nathan had
enough points to put his commodore on the outside front
row. Travis Hollyman was the man on pole, with Peter Gray
starting from 3rd and Shane Hollyman 4th. Travis Hollyman
got a better start as the greens flashed, but Macdonald kept
on the outside around turn 1 and had enough speed to slip
into 1st place. Nathan found the track to be very hooky
after the track grade, which really suited his V8
Commodore. Macdonald extended his lead out to 1/4lap.
Travis Hollyman was running 2nd until he had a flat right
hand rear tyre. This paved a way for Peter Gray to come
through into 2nd, with Shane Hollyman in hot pursuit. Over
the 15 lap feature there was a stoppage with 6 laps to go
after Peter Rodgers had been spun around by a Lismore car.
The race got underway again, as Macdonald now had a clear
path ahead, and opened up a handy lead to not be challenged
over the final few laps. Peter Gray finished in 2nd and
Shane Hollyman 3rd.
A very rewarding result considering our misfortune last time
down here!
Nathan's next race is Yandina on
the 15th April, then Charlton on the 16th April.
