Nathan
Macdonald headed up to Rockhampton on the 20th of May.
The racing was going to be competitive with about 30
cars being nominated. A lot of cars wanting to try the
track out before the Super Stocker title there in June.
Macdonald
started from position 8 in his first heat. Not one lap
had been completed when Danny Lennon was put in the
wall, grinding to a halt bringing on the yellows. On
the restart, Macdonald's car was only firing on a few
cylinders, with the car being underpowered. Nathan done
a few laps when the car all of a sudden come good.
Nathan managed to finish in 6th.
Heat 2 we
started from third place. The race got underway as
Macdonald got underneath Jeff Ohl around the first
corner challenging for the lead, but the track showed
some good drive as Ohl kept the foot down to retain the
lead. Macdonald slipped into 2nd place and stayed with
Jeff Ohl all race but wasn't close enough to make a
passing move. Macdonald finished second with Craig Tor
3rd.
For heat
number 3 Nathan was to start from 4th spot. As the
green light come on Macdonald missed a gear on the
start, but managed to get around the outside of a car
back into 3rd place. The fast paced track was providing
some good racing. Craig Tor made his way into the lead
as the first three cars were evenly matched. Macdonald
coming in for 3rd place.
Macdonald
qualified in 10th place for the 15 lap feature, but
actually started out of 8th after a car pulled out.
Craig Tor was on the money all night, qualifying his
Commodore on pole. Macdonald moved his way into 5th
place, and by the time he had got around the cars the
rest of the field had pulled away. Nathan was able to
reel in the field as lapped cars started to come into
play, on the last lap Macdonald moved up into turn 1 to
try and make a move, but didn't realise how slow the
lapped car ahead was going, Nathan slammed on the brakes
and hit the car which saw the two cars getting hooked up
which then saw other cars spin out behind them. The
race was then declared as Craig Tor showed his dominance
winning the final. Officials put Nathan back into 5th
place for the final finishing positions.
Nathan
now feels more confident going into the Qld title for
Super Stockers at Rochhampton on the 24th June, after
trying different racing lines and techniques.
The next
challenge will be at Bundaberg Speedway for a 2 night
meeting on the 10th & 11th June for the East Coast A
Grade QLD Title. We are expecting at least 20 cars for
the two nights. Modified Production are also having
their QLD Title with over 50 cars being nominated.
Shane Macdonald will have his car there contesting his
first major Title in Production.
