Macdonald brings Sunshine Coast Championship home
Sunday October 9, 2005

Nathan Macdonald had a successful night of racing at Yandina Speedway, taking out the Sunshine Coast Championship, which he had previously won 2 years ago, but was then called the City of Brisbane Title.  Nathan had a front row start for the first race in pole position.  Shane Hollyman was on the outside, Travis Hollyman out of position 3, Martin Cross out of 4, followed by Terry Medcalf, Alan Williams, Peter Campbell and Andrew Roberts.

Being the first heat, the track was pretty wet, seeing a one lane track.  Macdonald had the drier line, beating Hollyman off the start.  Clean racing in that heat saw no stoppages, Macdonald was able to extend a handy lead and take the heat win.  Shane Hollyman came through for 2nd place, Travis Hollyman close behind in 3rd, followed by Terry Medcalf and Allan Williams  1st-Nathan Macdonald  2nd-Shane Hollyman  3rd-Travis Hollyman

Heat 2 saw a reverse grid from the first heat, putting Macdonald at the rear.  New comers to East Coast A Grade, Peter Campbell and Andrew Roberts were forced to start at the rear being new drivers.  Alan Williams jumped straight to the lead into the first corner, Terry Medcalf slipping into 2nd spot.  Nathan Macdonald weaved his way into 3rd spot, challenging for 2nd, but didn't have the pace to get around Medcalf.  Alan Williams opened up a few car lengths lead to take the heat win comfortably. 1st-Alan Williams  2nd-Terry Medcalf  3rd-Nathan Macdonald

The top four shoot-out was underway, with the top four point scorers to battle for position over 5 laps to determine starting positions for the feature.  Nathan Macdonald started from pole, beside Terry Medcalf, followed by Alan Williams and Travis Hollyman.  Shane Hollyman was to compete but an engine misfire force him to park his car.  Macdonald got too anxious on the start, officials pulling up the race after Macdonald jumped the start.  Another restart saw Macdonald jump into the lead, only to run wide out of the corner letting Medcalf through.  Macdonald then struggled with the dry track, Medcalf winning the shoot-out easily to start from pole in the feature.  Macdonald come in for second, while Travis Hollyman crossed in 3rd place and Alan Williams 4th.  Williams suffering from engine troubles during the race.  Hollyman also had dramas, having a top diff arm break, forcing him out for the night.  1st-Terry Medcalf  2nd-Nathan Macdonald  3rd-Travis Hollyman

The feature race was over 15 laps.  Medcalf started on pole, with Macdonald on the outside, followed by Alan Williams, Andrew Roberts, Peter Campbell and Martin Cross.  This time Medcalf was the one with itchy feet, after jumping the start.  Another restart saw Medcalf get the better run on the inside, Macdonald sliding into 2nd and Alan Williams 3rd.  Williams pulling onto the infield after having engine troubles.  This left Andrew Roberts in his fuel injected Ford Falcon in 3rd spot and Peter Campbell 4th.  Macdonald kept pushing for first place, right on Medcalf's tail.

At about half race distance, Macdonald still pushing for 1st, Medcalf got too sideways on the slick track and spun out, Nathan just able to avoid a collision, Andrew Roberts also having to take evasive action.  The green lights stayed on, with Macdonald then taking the lead, with Roberts in 2nd and Medcalf back to 3rd and Peter Campbell 4th.  With a few laps to go, Medcalf ran into the wall after having a deflating right front tyre.  The Australian Champ car suffering severe front end damage, forcing him onto the infield.  Being the first time to race at the Yandina track in his new VS Commodore, Nathan Macdonald took the race win along with the Sunshine Coast Championship.  Andrew Roberts wasn't far behind in 2nd place, along with Peter Campbell finishing a solid 3rd.  This also being the first time at Yandina for Peter Campbell in his Holden Commodore.  1st-Nathan Macdonald  2nd-Andrew Roberts  3rd-Peter Campbell
