Another broken axle!
Sunday November 26, 2006
Yet
another broken axle has taken away another possible podium
position at Brisbane Speedway on Saturday night for the City of
Brisbane Title.
Heat one Macdonald started from 5th
place, as the car struggled to find grip on the Brisbane surface
Nathan managed to finish in 3rd place behind Martin Cross and
Terry Medcalf.
For heat number two Nathan was to
start off the front row with Paul Ledgerwood on the outside.
Macdonald got the better start down the front straight and into
the lead. A few laps later Macdonald ran wide in turn 2 which
allowed Terry Medcalf into the lead. Macdonald had no answer
for Medcalf and couldn't reel the car back in having to settle
for 2nd.
Some changes were made to the car to
try and get some more pace out of the car for the third heat.
Macdonald started from 4th spot, as the race got underway
Macdonald slid into 4th spot as Martin Cross ran wide which
allowed Macdonald into 3rd place. As the race leader Terry
Medcalf took another heat win and Stuart Fricker come in for 2nd
place with Macdonald settling for 3rd.
The feature saw Medcalf out of pole
position with Nathan on the outside, followed by Martin Cross
and Stuart Fricker. Medcalf threw his Falcon into the lead with
Macdonald slotting into 2nd. Macdonald was looking for a way
around Medcalf when on the 2nd lap Macdonald was forced to pull
out after the right rear axle broke. Medcalf was under siege
from a fast finishing Stuart Fricker, until Stu was battling
steering problems and ran wide and lost ground. Medcalf took
out the City of Brisbane Title with Stu finishing in 2nd and
Martin Cross 3rd.
Macdonald racing will be spending a lot of
time and money to make major improvements to the axle set-up to
prevent these occurrences and make the car more reliable.
