Podium finish
still eludes Macdonald at BIS
Sunday December 3, 2006
Nathan
had his chances of a podium finish dashed when his right rear
tyre went flat whilst running 2nd. After starting 3rd in the
feature race Macdonald was right on the tail of the race leader
when he was forced to pull out.
The first heat of the night Nathan
started from 5th place. Macdonald had a slow start to the race,
falling back to 7th place but moved through the field to finish
in 3rd.
Nathan Macdonald
was to start from pole position in heat 2, with Paul Ledgerwood
on the outside. Macdonald went wide in turn 1 and drifted back
to 4th While Paul Ledgerwood took the lead and Terry Medcalf
come into 2nd. Medcalf found his way past Ledgie into the lead,
while Macdonald and Martin Cross swapped positions several
times, which saw the cars 3 wide at one stage with Paul
Ledgerwood as well. Medcalf took the heat win with Macdonald
managing to finish in 2nd and Cross 3rd.
The third heat
was an eventful one with Paul O'neil flipping his car after
popping a right rear tyre into turn 1 after starting on the
front row. Macdonald was forced to pull out after the car got
stuck in 2nd gear and a tyre rubbing after contact trying to
avoid the roll over. When the race got underway again Shane
Hollyman and Terry Medcalf raced into turn 1, with Medcalf
getting the better run on the outside and leading the race from
start to finish. Shane Hollyman and Paul Ledgerwood also pulled
out with a flat tyre. Martin Cross finished in 2nd.
Medcalf was
highest point scorer starting from pole position, followed by
Martin Cross on the outside, Nathan Macdonald in 3, Paul
Ledgerwood in 4 and Shane Hollyman 5. Medcalf went straight to
the lead into the first corner, with Cross slotting into 2nd and
Macdonald 3rd. Macdonald transferred into 2nd as he got a good
run up the back straight to pass Martin Cross. Medcalf had a
handy lead, but Macdonald began to reel in the leader, as he
caught up to the back of the Falcon, but Macdonald pulled
infield when his right rear tyre went flat. Medcalf went
un-challenged for the rest of the race and took out his 3rd
consecutive victory at BIS. Martin Cross finished in 2nd with
Shane Hollyman coming in for a solid 3rd.
