Macdonald conquers rugged Yandina Track
Tuesday December 27, 2005

After heavy rain the night before, the granite surface of Yandina was set to be a very rough track.  Nathan Macdonald was to start out of position 5 for heat 1.  Macdonald advanced through to 3rd place after 2 laps, and made a move on Pat Dennis up the back straight, only to have under steered up to the wall and brush the wall with the back of the car, Dennis then got back underneath Macdonald into 2nd.  On the last lap, Macdonald had no drive, after breaking a right hand rear axle, but was able to cruise over the finish in 4th place.  Martin Cross took the heat win out, with Pat Dennis 2nd and Shane Hollyman 3rd.  1st-Martin Cross  2nd-Pat Dennis  3rd-Shane Hollyman

A new axle was put in the #32 car to get it mobile again, ready for the next heat.  A reverse grid from the first heat, Macdonald started from pole position, beside Shane Hollyman.  Macdonald drove his VS commodore into the first corner to take the lead, when the yellow lights come on after Shane Hollyman and Travis Hollyman come together up the back straight which saw Travis pull out after hitting the wall with suspension damage.  The restart got underway again, with Macdonald taking the lead, while Luke Hollyman had a good run coming from 6th place into 2nd.  Pat Dennis found a way past Luke Hollyman to take 2nd place, and started to reel in the leader, Macdonald, but wasn't enough as Nathan won heat 2.  Luke Hollyman finished 3rd, and Shane Hollyman 4th.  Shane Hollyman was out for the night after developing engine troubles.  1st-Nathan Macdonald  2nd-Pat Dennis  3rd-Luke Hollyman

For the final, Pat Dennis was highest qualifier, starting from pole position, followed by Macdonald on the outside, then Martin Cross, Luke Hollyman and Travis Hollyman.  An even start up the front straight, eventuated in Pat Dennis moving into 1st place around turn 1, Macdonald slipping into 2nd place.  After a few laps, Macdonald right on Pat Dennis's tail, Dennis had a loose in turn 2, which allowed Macdonald to go straight into the lead.  Pat managed to hold 2nd place, with Luke Hollyman in 3rd.  The race was then red flagged after Luke Hollyman punched a hole through the Yandina wall, right near the flagman.  A steering arm had come loose on his car, steering him straight into the concrete barrier, the wall having as much damage as the car.  The wall was repaired as best as possible, while Hollyman had to put the car to rest on the infield, bending the front of the car severely.  The race got underway again.  Macdonald stretching out a handy lead over Pat Dennis, and crossed the line in first place.  Pat Dennis come in for 2nd while Travis Hollyman and Martin Cross battled for 3rd spot.  Martin Cross was 3rd over the line and Travis Hollyman come in for 4th.  1st-Nathan Macdonald  2nd-Pat Dennis  3rd-Martin Cross
