Saturday night saw a
good turn out for the East Coast A Grade club in Brisbane, with
15 cars turning up to race. In the first race both Shane and
Nathan were off the rear beside each other, but a confused start
saw all the cars spread over the track. Dennis Bullpitt in Car
#10 started from position 2 and got the jump on Tony Blacker to
take the race lead. While once the field settled down, it saw
Bullpitt out in front with Tony Blacker behind him, and Rodney
Pammenter back in 5th, Nathan Macdonald behind him, followed by
Darren Lester and Shane Macdonald.
After attempting to
pass Allan Williams, the Australian Outlaw Champion, (Rodney
Pammenter) drifted a bit too high and hit the fence, followed by
a shunt up the rear from Nathan after he couldn't brake in time,
and Shane Macdonald stopping behind Nathan as he had no where to
go either. This put Pammenter out for the night with severe
front end damage. On the restart Bullpitt maintained the lead,
until about the last lap when Australia #1, Tony Blacker got up
the inside of Bullpitt, and drifted wide which put Dennis into
the wall. Bullpitt was able to hold onto 2nd but his VL
Commodore suffered a bent steering rack. While back in the pack
Nathan finished in 5th behind Terry Medcalf, followed by Shane
Macdonald and Darren Lester. 1st Tony Blacker 2nd Dennis
Bullpitt 3rd Allan Williams.
The second heat saw
both Macdonald brothers off the front row, with Nathan on the
inside. Shane managed to get better drive and took the lead
into the first corner, with Nathan following him. Shane opened
up a good lead, but Nathan was slowly reeling him in, but wasn't
enough to catch his brother. While Dennis Bullpitt came from
the rear of the field to finish in 6th behind Shane Hollyman.
1st Shane Macdonald 2nd Nathan Macdonald 3rd Darren
Lester.
Allan Williams,
Shane Macdonald and Nathan Macdonald all drew as highest point
scorers for the night. After drawing out of a hat, the field
saw Allan Williams on pole, Shane Macdonald on 2, Nathan
Macdonald on 3, Followed by Tony Blacker, Dennis Bullpitt and
Darren Lester out of position 6. Into the first corner, Allan
Williams got sideways in front of Nathan, with Macdonald braking
hard to miss Williams, he got turned around by Dennis Bullpitt.
Macdonald being narrowly missed by the oncoming cars.
A full restart saw
all cars go back into their position. This time they got up to
the back straight when Tony Blacker and Allan Williams touched
which resulted in Williams hitting the concrete wall forcing him
to retire. On the single row restart, Shane was out in front,
followed by Tony Blacker, Darren Lester, Nathan Macdonald and
Dennis Bullpitt. Shane was never troubled and opened up a handy
lead, while Tony Blacker spun out causing another stoppage after
only 5 laps. This resulted in the race being declared after the
track was running out of time to finish their races. The final
positions were- 1st Shane Macdonald 2nd Darren Lester 3rd
Nathan Macdonald. Dennis Bullpitt came home with 4th place
followed by Peter Rodgers to round out the top five.
