Tuesday night at
Yandina Speedway on the Sunshine Coast, the two Macdonald's
enjoyed fierce rivalry between themselves. Heat 1 saw Nathan
from 3 and Shane beside him in 4. Nathan was able to get into
2nd place behind Chris Duffel. While attempting to pass Duffel,
Nathan received a hit on the passenger door when Shane pulled up
beside him and passed the #32 car. Shane then got into the
lead, with Nathan then into 2nd. After feeling good through the
corner, Nathan's car suddenly drifted high and hit the wall.
Nathan's first thought was driver error but later discovering a
broken steering arm. Heat 1 finished with- 1st Shane
Macdonald 2nd Tanya Blacker 3rd Chris Duffel.
Nathan was back for
round 2, starting off of position 2 with Shane on pole. Shane
was able to get the better start and pulled into lead, with
Nathan switching back on the inside, he was able to pull up
beside Shane, racing right beside him for nearly a full lap.
But Shane never gave in, keeping his lead. After trying
desperately to catch his brother, Nathan on 2 occasions scraped
the wall up the front straight, but was unable to gain a
position. Heat 2 finished as - 1st Shane Macdonald 2nd
Nathan Macdonald 3rd Tanya Blacker.
The feature saw
Shane being highest point scorer and starting from pole, with
Nathan back in 4th. Shane jumped straight into the lead, with
Nathan making his way into the lead after the first lap, and
putting chase to the #27 car. Shane had about a 4 car-length
lead from Nathan, and on about lap 7, Shane was right behind a
lapped car, trying to pass, and as he come around turn 1, the
car in front of him swerved to the right, leaving Shane staring
straight at a parked car that had just spun out. Shane hit the
car head on, Shane didn't even have time to jump on the brakes.
The #27 car suffered severe front end damage, putting a hole in
the radiator. Shane was forced to retire.
Although
disappointed to see such damage to his brother's car, Nathan was
still happy to be handed the lead. On the restart Nathan was
never troubled, pulling away to a half-lap lead, and winning the
feature race. Nathan happily greeted the chequered flag, after
tonight being his first race at the Yandina track. 1st Nathan
