A
very long weekend was had by all, especially after trekking
north up to Mackay to contest the Australian Outlaw Title.
The Friday night race was cancelled due to excessive
rainfall. The decision was made to leave early Saturday
morning to try and make it back in time to contest the East
Coast A Grade race at Yandina on the Sunshine Coast that
night. Not long after we had left, we received a phone call
to say the Outlaw Title is postponed to the 4th of March
2006. Both nights were rained out.
Shane Hollyman and Nathan
Macdonald made it to the track about 20 minutes before our
first race, Peter Rodgers arrived later and missed the first
heat.
The weather was clear, and as we
hadn't nominated for the event at Yandina, we were forced to
start at the rear of field.
Heat 1 saw Nathan Macdonald struggle
early in the race, but pulled through from position 6 into
3rd place. A 4-way battle for the lead was on between
Martin Cross, Pat Dennis, Travis Hollyman & Nathan
Macdonald, with the lead swapping on several occasions. Pat
Dennis eventuated into 1st place, while Nathan made a last
corner manoeuvre into 2nd place around the outside of Martin
Cross. Shane Hollyman suffered an engine misfire halfway
through the race, pulling onto the infield, while Travis
Hollyman pulled out after losing engine oil.

The second heat saw Martin Cross & Pat
Dennis off the front row. Cross got the better start, with
Dennis sliding into 2nd, with Macdonald coming through into
3rd spot. After a restart as one car had spun out, the
field bunched up with Peter Rodgers sitting in 4th. Nathan
Macdonald tried several moves on the outside of Pat Dennis,
and looked to have the goods, but in turn 3 & 4, that
concrete barrier sucked him in, Macdonald hitting the wall
with the tail of the car, losing ground. Martin Cross took
the heat win from Pat Dennis, Nathan Macdonald, Peter
Rodgers & Rob Bennet. Shane Hollyman had a DNF after
running into oil pressure problems.

An extra heat was added as the meeting
was running ahead of schedule, with Nathan Macdonald & Peter
Rodgers still having to start from the rear of field.
Travis Hollyman started from pole position beside Pat
Dennis. The track had been watered before the race, making
for an interesting race. Nathan Macdonald started from
position 4 as some cars had pulled out. The race start was
put on suddenly, with most drivers not ready for the green
lights to come on, including Macdonald. Nathan still had an
excellent run on the outside as the pole line was wet and
slippery. Martin Cross led the race with Macdonald in 2nd,
only to see Macdonald run wide in turn 3, letting Pat Dennis
past. Travis Hollyman come into second place, by running
down low on the pole line, only to lose positions after
spinning on the slippery pole line. Macdonald then picked
up the pace to pull through into 2nd place behind Pat
Dennis, Macdonald making a gusty move around the outside of
Pat Dennis for the lead. The #32 Holden Commodore taking
the heat 3 win.

Macdonald had enough points to qualify on the outside front
row for the feature, beside Pat Dennis. Martin Cross
started from position 3, followed by Travis Hollyman, Rob
Bennet & Peter Rodgers. Macdonald raced into 1st place,
only to see the yellows come on after Martin Cross & Travis
Hollyman come together in turn 1. The race was restarted,
with Macdonald again getting the lead on the first lap.
Nathan never looked back opening an extensive lead over the
field, as Pat Dennis had to pull out, after coming in
contact with wall, bending his steering. Martin Cross was
running 4th when he collected Travis Hollyman as Hollyman
spun out. Cross pulled out with a broken steering arm.
Hollyman was sent to the rear of field, this left Peter
Rodgers in second place and Rob Bennet in 3rd. Macdonald
kept the foot down over the 15 lap feature, saying "it''s
the best the cars been all season, everything was running
perfect".
Nathan took the feature win as a
consolation, after being exhausted by traveling over 24hrs
all up going to Mackay & back. Peter Rodgers was pleased
with his second placing, as this is the first time to hit
the track this season with his new motor and new paint
scheme. Rob Bennet finished 3rd with Travis Hollyman 4th.
