2009/2010 Re-cap

Season 2009/2010 saw a great team result for both Shane and Nathan Macdonald in what was a stellar season.  Evidence of the siblings rivalry and results came from the "Totally Speedway Magazine" 2009/2010 Modified Production Driver rankings, where for the past season Shane was ranked 4th and Nathan 5th. Shane's solid performances in the Australian Title and winning the 2010 Australian Open helped his ranking, while Nathan's podium finishes in the Queensland and Tasmanian titles pushed him up to #5.

Shane Macdonald set out to defend his QLD Title at Gympie's Mothar mountain Speedway on Sunday night the 25th of April after the first night of racing on Saturday was washed out with the rain Mother Nature brought down.  With the whole program now being run in one night, it was going to be fairly hectic with a grueling five heats and a 40 lap final.

Saturday Night saw Macdonald Racing head off to Maryborough for the final round of the Exide Batteries Nambour Queensland Modified Production Series in which Shane and Nathan were in positions 8th and 10th respectively. Both Brothers were hoping for a good night to climb the point’s ladder.

Lucky break for Nathan at Easter Classic

Easter Sunday the 4th of April saw the running of the Easter Classic for Modified Productions at Charlton Raceway.  Starting from third on the grid for heat one, Nathan struggled in the heavy track to go forward, after sitting in fifth Nathan moved past brother Shane to finish 4th after he was suffering an engine misfire.

Nathan Macdonald made up for the disappointing finish in last weeks Australian Title to bring his VZ Commodore home in 2nd place in the Tasmanian State Title held at Hobart Speedway Tasmania on the weekend (20th March).  With a second and third placing in his heats, Shane Macdonald qualified his VS Commodore out of position 5.

Coming into the final night of racing, Nathan was leading the points tally ahead of Andrew Blackwell and Mark Carlin.  After some unfortunate penalties the night before Shane was 13th in points.  Nathan had some work cut out for him in his heat starting from the back of the field in 9th place.

Another podium finish for brothers Shane and Nathan Macdonald at Gympie Speedway on Saturday night (20th February) driving Shane's QLD Title winning car, was a much welcomed reward leading up to the National Title being held in Tasmania in two weeks time.

Nathan Macdonald raced to a solid 2nd place finish in Round three of the Exide Batteries Nambour QLD Series at Charlton Raceway with Shane Macdonald crossing the line in 9th position.  Nathan started the 30 lap final from 14th, and raced past many top drivers through the field utilising his home track advantage on his way to a 2nd place finish behind race winner Greg Worling.  Early in the race, Nathan took a few laps before he began his surge forward.

Round two of the Exide Batteries Nambour QLD Series was held at Brisbane International Speedway on Saturday night the 16th January, with both Shane and Nathan Macdonald displaying a strong presence in the feature race.  QLD Champion Shane Macdonald qualified the 30-lap final out of position three, while Brett Baxter was to be off pole position with Aidan Raymont on the outside.  Nathan qualified his car out of position ten in the 20 car field.

After a rather hectic race Schedule during the month of January, Nathan Macdonald made the most of his time away from work to hit the Speedway tracks.  A week after the Fraser Coast Series at Maryborough, Nathan decided to trek up the highway to Gympie for the January 9th meeting to try his hand at the rather unusual circuit in readiness for the 30/30 Modified Production event in February.

It was time for Round 2 of the Fraser Coast Modified Production Series as Shane and Nathan Macdonald set about to head into a new year and to Maryborough Speedway for a two night show on Friday and Saturday Night (1st & 2nd).  A big weekend was a ahead with 50 cars nominated for Round 2.

After missing the last few race meetings due to work commitments, Nathan is ready and raring to go to get back in the driver seat.  Nathan has only had one opportunity to race his new car so far, but will be making up for it over the Christmas/New Year break with the team heading to Lismore Speedway on the 26th December, followed by Maryborough Speedway on the 1st and 2nd January for round 2 of the Fraser Coast Series.  Already there are over 40 cars nominated for Maryborough which will make the competition fierce.

Nathan Macdonald debuted his new Linmac Automotive VZ Commodore last night, and what a great night of racing it was.  Nathan had no issues with the car and was on the pace from the first heat.  15 cars turned up for the first race meeting of the season.

After 18 months of blood sweat and tears, the new car is mobile and by all reports is looking great.  Nathan was able to make it Brisbane Speedway on Saturday night for a few practice runs before the first official race meeting at Charlton on the 7th November. 
After a very successful run at the dyno through the week, Macdonald was glad he put the effort in to get to Brisbane after finding some gremlins already.

After getting the car back from a very successful run at the dyno through the week and completing the sign writing and setup of the car, its all ready to go for its first race on the 7th November 2009 at Charlton Raceway.
